 Abuse   :

To use (something) to bad effect or for a bad purpose; misuse. | To treat (a person or an animal) with cruelty or violence, especially regularly or repeatedly.

 Affidavit   :

A written statement confirmed by oath or affirmation, for use as evidence in court. | a written statement made by someone who has officially promised to tell the truth, and which might be used in a court of law.

 Civil Lawsuit   :

A lawsuit based on non-criminal statutes, such as disputes involving accidents or contracts. Civil suits typically seek to recover money damages or allow/disallow certain acts, rather than to imprison or punish a person.

 Compensation   :

Something, typically money, awarded to someone as a recompense for loss, injury, or suffering. The action or process of awarding someone money as a recompense for loss, injury, or suffering. The money received by an employee from an employer as a salary or wages.

 Court   :

A tribunal presided over by a judge, judges, or a magistrate in civil and criminal cases. | A formal legal meeting in which evidence about crimes, disagreements, etc., is presented to a judge and often a jury so that decisions can be made according to the law.

 Defamation   :

The action of damaging the good reputation of someone; slander or libel. | Defamation is a false statement presented as a fact that causes injury or damage to the character of the person it is about.

 Deposition   :

A deposition is part of permitted pre-trial discovery (investigation), set up by an attorney for one of the parties to a lawsuit demanding the sworn testimony of the opposing party (defendant or plaintiff), a witness to an event, or an expert intended to be called at trial by the opposition.

 Domestic Violence   :

Violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner.

 Evidence   :

The available body of facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid. | Law Information drawn from personal testimony, a document, or a material object, used to establish facts in a legal investigation or admissible as testimony in a law court.

 Eyewitness   :

A person who has personally seen something happen and so can give a first-hand description of it. Synonyms: observer, onlooker, witness, bystander, spectator, watcher, viewer, passerby.

 Implication   :

The conclusion that can be drawn from something although it is not explicitly stated. | The action or state of being involved in something.

 Innocence   :

The state, quality, or fact of being innocent of a crime or offense. | If someone proves their innocence, they prove that they are not guilty of a crime. 

 Liability   :

The state of being responsible for something, especially by law. | A person or thing whose presence or behavior is likely to cause embarrassment or put one at a disadvantage.

 Malice   :

The intention or desire to do evil; ill will. | Wrongful intention, especially as increasing the guilt of certain offenses

 Manipulation   :

The action of manipulating something in a skillful manner. | The action of manipulating someone in a clever or unscrupulous way.

 Narcissist    :

A person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves. | The hallmarks of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) are grandiosity, a lack of empathy for other people, and a need for admiration. People with this condition are frequently described as arrogant, self-centered, manipulative, and demanding.

 Non-Disclosure Agreement    :

A contract by which one or more parties agree not to disclose confidential information that they have shared with each other as a necessary part of doing business together.

 Op-Ed    :

Denoting or printed on the page opposite the editorial page in a newspaper, devoted to commentary, feature articles, etc.

 Perjury    :

The offense of willfully telling an untruth in a court after having taken an oath or affirmation. The voluntary violation of an oath or vow either by swearing to what is untrue or by omission to do what has been promised under oath.

 Plaintiff/Defendant   :

The party against whom the complaint is made is the defendant; or, in the case of a petition, a respondent. Case names are usually given with the plaintiff first, as in Plaintiff v. Defendant. The similar term "complainant" denotes the complaining witness in a criminal proceeding.

 Proof   :

Evidence or argument establishing or helping to establish a fact or the truth of a statement. The cogency of evidence that compels acceptance by the mind of a truth or a fact.

 Punitive Damages   :

Damages exceeding simple compensation and awarded to punish the defendant. | A judge will award punitive damages if he wishes to make an example of the defendant, or if he believes that compensatory damages are not enough to punish the defendant. 

 Refute   :

Prove (a statement or theory) to be wrong or false; disprove. | Prove that (someone) is wrong. Deny or contradict (a statement or accusation). 

 Restraining Order   :

A temporary court order issued to prohibit an individual from carrying out a particular action, especially approaching or contacting a specified person.

 Statement   :

A definite or clear expression of something in speech or writing. | A formal account of events given by a witness, defendant, or other party to the police or in a court of law.

 Testimony   :

A formal written or spoken statement, especially one given in a court of law. | Evidence or proof provided by the existence or appearance of something. | A public recounting of a religious conversion or experience.

 Victim   :

A person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action. 

A person who is tricked or duped.
